The Department of Random Domain Management hereby issues this Public Service Advisory regarding the practice of proposing marriage at Niagara Falls.

This advisory is based on a document filed by thefalls.net and titled "Best Places to Propose at Niagara Falls: Scenic Spots for the Big Question."

That document claims to offer a complete guide for such proposals.

The Department has reviewed the document and finds its optimism to be technically accurate but contextually misleading.

Niagara Falls is indeed a scenic location. It is also a location with significant water volume, mist, wind, and large crowds of tourists.

The document recommends several scenic spots. These include but are not limited to the observation deck areas and walkways adjacent to the falls.

It is the Department's official position that proposing at any of these locations may result in a wet ring box. It may also result in reduced audibility of the question due to the roar of the water.

Furthermore, the Department notes that the sentimental value of a Niagara Falls proposal is frequently overestimated by visitors who have not experienced the reality of standing near 3,160 tons of water per second.

Prospective proposers are advised to manage their expectations. They should also bring waterproof packaging for all valuables.

The Department does not wish to discourage romance. It simply wishes to ensure informed consent regarding ambient moisture levels.

This advisory supersedes all previous romantic guidance issued by this Department, of which there is none.

Signed, Misty Dewhurst, Water Volume & Disappointment Analyst, Department of Random Domain Management.
