DRDM — A DRDM Property

This Public Service Advisory is filed in response to persistent inquiries regarding the hue of the water at Niagara Falls.

The originating analysis was submitted by our affiliate, the Niagara River Water Quality Office.

It has come to our attention that the general public continues to believe the water is green.

Let us be clear: it is not green.

The water appears as a mixture of blue-green and milky emerald due to dissolved minerals and the angle of sunlight.

The Niagara River transports approximately 60 tons of dissolved minerals per minute.

These minerals are predominantly limestone and shale particles.

We understand that the resulting color may resemble a recreational pool's chlorinated visual.

We wish to state, categorically, that this is not a sign of dye, algae, or a natural wonder gone wrong.

It is simply geology and light interacting in a manner that disappoints those expecting a more vivid green.

Tourists are advised to adjust their expectations accordingly.

Any further questions regarding the color of falling water will be met with the same answer.

We thank you for your patience, which we suspect is as worn as our own.

Signed, Misty Dewhurst, Water Volume & Disappointment Analyst, Department of Random Domain Management.
